The owner account's password cannot be reset from the browser, not even by another administrator. If it is lost, reset it on the server with beepanel password. The command sets a temporary password and signs the owner out everywhere. It changes nothing else.

For other accounts, an administrator resets the password on the Users page; see Users and permissions.

Before you start

  • Root access to the BeePanel server.
  • Setup completed, so that an owner account exists.

Resetting the password

  1. Run as root:

    beepanel password
  2. Note the username and the temporary password it prints:

    ==> Resetting the owner password
      Username: owner
      Temporary password: Xq7...
hint: this password is shown once; sign in and change it now

success: owner password reset; existing owner sessions signed out

The temporary password is shown only this once.

  3. Sign in to BeePanel with that username and temporary password.

  4. Open Profile in the account menu, choose Change next to the password, and set a new password of your own.

Checking the result

You can sign in as the owner with the new password.

Common problems

error: password reset failed

The cause: line gives the reason:

  • owner password recovery requires root: run the command as root.
  • no owner account exists yet: setup is not complete. Complete it in the browser; it creates the owner account.

error: a follow-up step failed after the reset; the temporary password above is active

The password was reset, but a later step failed. Sign in with the temporary password it printed.
